ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called for countrywide protest demonstrations hours after its co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), sources informed Geo News Monday.
The NAB arrested Zardari in the fake bank accounts case after a bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected a plea filed by Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, seeking an extension in their interim bail.
While addressing a press conference later on Monday, Bilawal Bhutto said he condemned the arrest of former president Zardari.
The PPP chairman said that he will protest and it will lead to ‘Dama Dam Mast Qalandar’ (cause a stir).
Bilawal Bhutto said that there is no way out except for public contact campaign and the government is making arrest just to conceal its incompetence.
The decision to hold protests was one of the many made at a meeting of the PPP’s central executive committee (CEC), presided over by party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari earlier.

They said the CEC condemned arrest of the former president and directives for demonstrations were issued to all district chapters of the party during the meeting.
The demonstrations would be held against alleged victimisation of the PPP leadership by the government, the sources said.

The meeting also agreed upon participation in an all-party conference (APC) of the opposition parties and going further with them, the sources informer further.
